TOMORROW, Tuesday, May 17th - Safe School/Healthy Students is hosting a Teen Summit at Osceola Heritage Park. During the day teens will be taking part in break-out sessions and other activities. Between 3pm and 4pm, a student from each high school has been selected to talk to the community about what he or she is challenged by as a young person, the assets they possess and how the community might help. Women Build clinics with Habitat Osceola and Lowe's
Calling all Osceola Women!
Habitat for Humanity is excited to announce two great (and free!) opportunities to learn new construction skills that you can use with us for future Women Build Program projects! Lowe's at The Loop in Kissimmee will be holding clinics at their store located at 1300 Osceola Pkwy. W. on the following dates:

Hand and Power Tools clinic
Monday, May 2
6pm - 7pm
Interior Paint and Trim clinic
There are only 20 slots available for each clinic! You may sign up for one or both. Please feel free to invite friends, family, or fellow female co-workers! Energy Assistance Day
The Osceola Council on Aging will be taking calls for Energy Assistance this Tuesday 4/19/2011 starting a 2pm. To call for assistance, use the new direct number for energy assistance by dialing 407-933-9540. This number skips the main menu and goes directly to the energy assistance department. You can still call the main number (407-846-8532) to access assistance however using the direct number is easier and more convenient.
Osceola residents needing utility assistance must call to be screened for eligibility. Osceola County residents household income can not exceed 150% of poverty.
Applicants who fall within one or more of the three vulnerable population guidelines will be considered “most in need” and will be given priority to be served. Applicants who do not fit within the “vulnerable population” guidelines will be served after, if appointments are available.
Criteria for vulnerable population:
- 60 years of age or older
- Disabled (must be recieving disability)
- Families with children age 12 yrs old and under

Habitat for Humanity has been serving Osceola County for over 13 years. We work to create a stronger community though volunteer involvement, non-profit collaboration, corporate partnerships, and family outreach. We believe in giving a hand-up to families in need, not a hand-out. Osceola County has been hit hard by home foreclosures leaving many families with no place to go. With no emergency shelter, the need for affordable housing is urgent.
If you are interested in learning more about how you, your workplace, or your church can help serve the needs of this community with Habitat, come join us for a free lunch and information session.
